Mr Hersh Deo is a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon specialising in knee and hip surgery. He has over 12 years of NHS Consultant experience. His NHS practice is based at The James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust JPUH. Privately, he works at East Point Consulting Rooms at JPUH and Spire Norwich Hospital. He has excellent patient feedback on Doctify and Topdoctors. His National joint registry NJR data shows that his outcomes from all joint replacement are equal to or better than his peers across the UK.
His elective work is a mix of knee arthroscopy / soft tissue knee reconstruction and primary knee and hip replacement. He specialises in procedures such as meniscal repair, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, cartilage repair / transplant and medial patello-femoral ligament MPFL reconstruction for patella instability. He has recently published a paper on a kneecap stabilisation technique which he has pioneered – The Knee Journal Oct 2023.
His special interest is in sports knee surgery and knee preservation for young adult knee problems, including all types of partial knee replacements and high tibial osteotomy.
Hersh gained his medical degree from St George’s Hospital Medical School University of London. After completing 3 years of Basic surgical training, he took a year out to study for a Master of Science degree in Surgical Sciences at Imperial College, London. His research looked into ways of regenerating articular cartilage in the knee – an area which remains of special interest today. His Orthopaedic higher surgical training took place in London South-east Thames rotation after which he completed 2 years of Fellowship training, sub-specialising in surgery of the knee and hip. His first Fellowship was spent in Adelaide, Australia where he worked closely with some of the best surgeons in Australia perfecting techniques in sports knee surgery. The second year was spent as a Fellow at Guys & St. Thomas Hospital in London where he learned techniques regarding hip and knee replacement including revision surgery.
For joint replacements, Hersh is committed to using evidence based implants and advanced bearing surfaces Hersh prides himself on offering state-of-the art operative techniques. Through implementation of personal innovations and effective communication within the multi-disciplinary team, his joint replacement patients have a shorter length of stay, re-admission rate and infection rate compared to the national average. He has a successful series of day case partial joint replacements.
Hersh captained his University cricket team and won 3 successive tournaments. He still enjoys club cricket as well as tennis, skiing and golf. He loves to cook for his wife, 3 kids and a spaniel.
